Breeze is excited!!

I had planned to tell you about how the pack assisted with the installation of new flooring in the master bedroom.  The room was cleared out, the tools assembled and we were ready to get started.

Azule and Bill ready to help but staying out of the way.

Best laid plans and all that.  You see, it looks like the floor is level.  It's a new sub floor (installed by the previous owners) and no, I didn't actually get a level out and check. I now know that I should have.

Let's just say that I am really glad I kept all the receipts and that I am not looking forward to carrying 17 boxes of laminate flooring back downstairs and out to the car to return it.

So, why is Breeze excited?   Well, part of the reason is that I made some new tug toys.  (Some scrap fabric knotted and braided)

But the real reason why Breeze is so excited is this -

Not to be confused with Gerrard the wonder kitty.

She is approximately nine months old,  spayed and fully vaccinated.  Her people posted an ad on Kijiji to find her a new home since their landlord found out about her and told them no pets allowed.

I think that her name will be Elsie (after my Grandmother).  She's settling in well after her first two nights of hiding in the back of the closet which is under the stairs. As you can imagine, the pack makes a fair amount of noise running up and down the stairs and no doubt the poor little thing was terrified. I decided to get her out of there and put her in a large dog crate with a bed, food and water and a litter box. She used the litter box right away and then meowed, ever so softlyElsie seems quite content now to be wandering around and sniffing at the dogs through the gate. After settling for the afternoon in the crate, it's no longer being used for her.

Breeze and Azule checking on Elsie.

Breeze seems convinced that this is the best thing to ever come in the house.  She is beyond excited every time she gets a whiff of her!  They have checked each other out and Elsie seems curious as to what those hulking creatures are. Gerrard is his typical self with a whatever outlook on life. I think that being exposed to the permanent pack and fosters over the years has made him ultra-relaxed.

Brook was trying to figure out what was going on and being the clever little thing that she is, she got up on the armrest of the chair for a better vantage point. (yes, she is blind, so it's not like she was able to see better!)

So, no new flooring installed but a kitty that needed a forever and ever home has arrived and that makes Breeze very excited.

Great minds think alike--I just made Silas some braided tug toys!

That's too bad about your floors. I really like our laminate. I guess you'll be stuck with boring old linoleum if the floors are badly off level.

    1. After my disappointment about the floor, I had to do something that I knew would be successful, so braided toys!

  2. Holy moly--you've done it again! And during a time of household upheaval too. Good on ya, that is one cute and lucky kitty!

    1. It just hasn't been the same with only one cat and I know that blind Breeze especially misses Oscar, he was her buddy. So, I thought that since there are so many that need homes, why not!

  3. Aww, kitty! I'm surprised all 7 of your dogs are cat friendly and that both your cats are dog friendly. We have a 16 year old cat and she's hated all our dogs. In fact, when we brought Beamer and Charlie home as puppies, they wanted to befriend her, but she attacked them. Beamer is 90lbs and terrified of her. Charlie sometimes antagonizes the cat, but he's harmless.

    1. We're lucky, especially since some of the dogs (Hiker and Bill) are hunters outside. Inside, they like to play with the cats.

    1. Thanks! Elsie isn't quite as excited as Breeze nor is she as relaxed as Oscar was, but I can see that she soon will be. I keep thinking that when we move and get some TNR barn cats, Breeze will about lose her mind sniffing them out!

  5. Breeze is our kind of girl! Now Breeze you've got to harass that cat every chance you get....but watch out because we've heard that cats bop you on the head when you least expect it!

XXXOOO Daisy, bella & roxy (Actually, we're always glad when we hear of an animal that gets a forever home.)

PeeS We do have kangaroos in the wild, and we know where some hang out, but we don't see them much. SHE'd love to see a real moose!

    1. Breeze really doesn't need your encouragement! She has snuffled, sniffed and nudged every chance she could since Friday night when the kitty arrived.

There is a park a few hours north of us where you are guaranteed to see moose along the highway in the spring. Great photo opportunities and also off season in the campsites, sometimes moose will wander through. So huge and majestic, just beautiful creatures!

  6. Congratulations on your new addition! Once everyone gets acquainted, I'm sure she'll fit right in! Sorry to hear about your failed floor installation. Not sure how you fit in work, home remodeling projects, treat baking, hikes, and making your own dog toys! You are amazing!

    1. Thanks, but I'm not really that amazing. The "secret" to it all is 12 hour shift rotations which means that one week I work four days and then the following I work three. It's that simple. Sure night shifts throw things a bit off but it's not too bad.

  7. Congrats on the new addition...love her name too! Sounds like she'll be mingling with the dogs in now time. What a bummer about the floors though!

    1. Elsie is coming around and not hiding any more. She's not quite at the play and cuddle with dogs stage yet, but soon I think!

    1. It's now been a few days and Breeze is still convinced that the cat was adopted just for her! Every time she gets close, Breeze just about wiggles out of her skin.

  10. You could level the floor with thin plywood, but it is a pain to do. We put a red oak floor in the kitchen 9 years ago, but the dogs' nails have really scratched it. Not refinishing it any time soon. :)

Glad Breeze has a new kitty, congratulations!

    1. Yes, it would be a pain and I'm just wanting something quick, easy and as cheap as possible to make it look decent so that (hopefully) the house will sell quick and we can get going.
