Checking on breakfast

There are a few daily things that people are curious about regarding the pack.  One situation that came up recently was how it wouldn't be possible to leave anything edible unattended.  Well, the other morning, I decided to prove that it is possible to do that in our home!

"Smells yummy!"

We don't have use a coffee table or end tables in our living room.  No coffee table mainly due to the fact that it would be another obstacle for the blind trio and partly due to wanting the open space for playing.  As for an end table, a dog crate works well.

Since we have switched back to the wire style for now, I've added a piece of cardboard so that the cat's paws don't go through and the piece on the side so Elsie won't fall off.  Yes, she might fall off because she is a belly rub fan who rolls around and doesn't pay attention to the edge!

I had set my breakfast down and then went to open the door for Brook to come in and saw Elsie, Forest and Breeze checking out my breakfast.  They know to not take anything so I had time to go and get the camera.

Forest actually got really close there but a quiet, "ahem" from me and he backed off.  Now, if that half a bagel with peanut butter was on the floor - it would last about two seconds!

(The pillow that Forest is standing on in the pictures usually leans against the crate so it is soft and comfy for Breeze as she lays on the ottoman and leans on the crate.)

Now don't be thinking that the poor, neglected and deprived dogs went without peanut butter - regardless of what they tell you.  Each and every morning, without fail, they all get a half of an unsalted soda cracker with natural, organic peanut butter.  Besides, the bagel had raisins in it.

  1. that is great!! I am always aware of fosters stealing my brekky but it has been years since a young Bender stole my toast when I went to answer my phone one morning!

    1. And did Bender act all innocent upon your return?! I must admit, I was looking back over my shoulder, but more for the cat than anything else.

So so impressive. Finn doesn't eat our food, but with Charley, it is a different story!

    1. I think that if i had been any longer, Forest might have tried a lick or two. I did catch the cat one time with her paw hovering over a cup of coffee one morning, just ready to dip in!

  4. My pack would not have been able to resist! (well, the young members anyway. Abby wants me to clarify that SHE would NEVER steal food. lol)

    1. Abby - it's always those young ones, isn't it? You're such a good girl!

  5. Too much competition in our pack. First pup there would have snaffled that quick smart!

  6. I take no credit for it but Max has never tried to sneak food and I've left it in reach numerous times so someone must have taught him before me.

    1. Maybe Max is just a really good boy? Or you're not leaving anything yummy within reach.

  7. Well done mates. We are good too but if mum leaves the room then it's a free for all hehe. Mmmmm peanut butter. Have you tried Vegemite yet? If you do, don't forget you only need a little vegemite (with butter too), not spread thick like peanut butter. Take care mates. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory

    1. Vegemite? We've heard of that but no, never tried it. Not sure we want to, having heard it's not a taste North Americans like!

Ugh...I just typed a comment then lost it!! So here we go again...

I'm impressed! Riley leaves food alone for the most part (if it's mine). She will, occasionally, steal food off the table or counter. And she'll take her Grandma and Grandpa's food if they're not careful...guess she doesn't see them as "pack leaders" like she does me.

That's a good idea about freezing the MilkOpet milk! I mean, I guess it's okay to freeze it--I would have to ask. You store it at room temperature, then once you've opened it, it has to be refrigerated. But Riley will drink a whole carton of it, so I guess that's just if you have Chihuahuas or something. :) Now I want to pour some into some bathroom cups and freeze it like Frosty Paws on hot days like today!

    1. Are Grandma and Grandpa pushovers? Maybe they're offering more than you know!

You gotta try freezing the MilkOpet and let us know how it turns out. (Riley - you're welcome)

  9. That's awesome! Kaya & Norman are great about leaving food untouched but I wouldn't trust Gina...she's one greedy cat!

    1. I'm with you on that, I trust the dogs more than the cats too. It's more the cat paws into the coffee that bugs me.

  10. They sure have a lot of self control! I'm very impressed at how well they were 'guarding' your breakfast for you!

When I'm not allowed something Mum says "Not for Doggies" and I know it's game over, she never relents, needless to say I don't like that phrase, but I do wander off after I hear it....

    Have a fun day,

    Your pal Snoopy :)

    1. Are you saying that you misbehave? I think that since you're little, if you find it, you should have it. It's not like you're jumping up on tables or counters.

  13. I've missed your blog! Those are good pups to leave it! My pups don't dare touch our food if one of us is in the room but I once made a mistake of leaving a cup of hot salsa on an end table when I took Braylon on a walk and came home to see Hades had licked the cup clean! Oops!

    1. Ouch! Hot salsa? You'd think a taste or two would be enough.

  14. Now that is a fine group of well-behaved cattle dogs! I generally have to put my peanut butter up high with a foster dog around, though I trust Fozzie and Lamar....for the most part:)

    Good dogs!!

    1. Twiggy our foster would grab it in a second. Anything remotely edible and she gobbles it. We have a crate for her. It's so much easier!

  19. What good babies! I could leave a peanut butter bagel unattended - but that's cuz Rita doesn't like p.b. (Isn't she weird??)

    1. Be sure and tell Rita that Bill isn't overly fond of peanut butter. With a couple of the others, you'll lose a finger if you're not paying attention when there is peanut butter involved.
