Tasty Tuesday

Here on the east coast we've been enjoying blueberry season.  The first time I went to pick, I really didn't give a whole lot of thought to the type of blueberries I would be picking.  Where we recently lived, I had gone picking blueberries every year.  The farm was close by, the berry plants were tall, you just had to stand there and reach out to grab handfuls of large, plump juicy blueberries. Yum!

My picking experience here was a flashback to camping in northern Ontario. The blueberries at the pick your own farm were wild.  Tiny little plants, about six inches tall covered with teeny tiny little berries.  It took a long time to pick but they were oh so good and a great price too. Only $1.50 a pound. This is a quart basket that has had a handful removed and it only cost $1.50.

All the dogs have had some blueberries on their dinners..

and everyone was excited….except Breeze.  She refused to eat them. Ate the kibble and repeatedly picked up the blueberries and spit them out.

  1. What? No blueberry snack dog cake? ;)

Blueberry also isn't keen on raw blueberries unless they are really sweet. She prefers them in baked goods. I bet Breeze would eat a blueberry muffin though!

    1. Cake? I wish we had an oven to make one in. If I could, I would make blueberry dog treats but again, no oven. :(

    1. I'm sure she ate the cultivated (large) ones last year. She's just silly.

  3. Those look wonderful! We pay about $4.00 for a teeny tiny container (probably about 5 ounces). I guess Breeze doesn't like that kind of surprise in her kibble. :-)

    1. We're lucky in that we've always lived in an area that is known for fresh veggies and produce. Yum!

  5. A couple of the collies like blueberries...but Ryder loves them! I've never been blueberry picking! (Apple, strawberry and peach picking, but never blueberries!)

    1. If you're going to pick, try and get the high bush or cultivated. Much easier!

  6. Hate to tell you what they cost for a small punnet AND they were probably picked early and allowed to 'ripen' in the container.

Silas is funny about blueberries, too. If he ever bites into one he likes them, but he doesn't always get that far. He has a lot of funny food preferences, though.

  10. That's so funny about spitting out the blueberries. I bet Rita would do the same. She's such a fussbudget.
