Warm winter day.

We've been having some unusually warm winter weather the past few days and Saturday's forecast high is 11C/51F!  Of course, with warm temperatures comes snow melt and the dreaded mud. Oh well, it does make for some nice hiking weather, especially since it's been sunny too.

I took Bill, Hiker and Forest out yesterday.

(They look a bit squished but there is plenty of room for all of them to lay down and relax. They slept all the way home.)

The trail we went to is a favorite and as usual we were the only ones there.  Lots to explore and sniff.

Sometimes, Hiker gets a bit rambunctious during the off trail exploring and this is what happens.

Hiker: "Oops, I don't think this the way to wear Doggles."

It's interesting to note that when this happened, she sat immediately and waited for me.  Later on our hike, she somehow got her dew claw caught in the ring of her I.D. tag.  Again, she immediately sat and waited for me to help. It's not something I have taught her but I'm sure glad that she does it.

(I often take their collars off for pictures.  At home they don't wear them.)

There were some tired dogs when we got home.

The others?  Not to worry, they played out in the yard, chased each other, wrestled and chased some more!

I try and mix up the group that I take out for a hike and sometimes, only one goes.  I know they don't keep track of who went last time nor do they think, "why can't I go?" (well, maybe Hiker does...)

  1. That looks like fun! I have to ask - the places that you go - are there signs that say your dog must be leashed but you let them off anyway cause they have such great recall? I have yet to let B off leash cause everywhere we go there are signs saying all dogs must be leashed otherwise there is a fine.

  2. We rarely go to places with restrictions mainly because of wanting to be off leash and let them run. There is a provincial park that I take Callie to where she is always leashed but that's due to twisty trails and her issues. I'm so looking forward to living in the country with acres of our own to run on with no restrictions or people!

    1. That's great that you have different places where they can be off leash! That's just not usually available here - at least that I have seen.

Oh and by the way - your "high" will be ours tomorrow and I am already planning on lots of layers because I will be FREEZING!! Blueberry's training class will be outside in the morning so I know it will be less than 50. Brrrr!!! At least for us. ;)

  4. My favorite shot is the trio together!!! too funny that Hiker waits for you to come and help--shows how much they love and trust you. The snoozin photos made me smile. Those are some tired but happy pups.

    1. They look nice sitting together but really don't like to stop and pose! I'm thinking that red is Forest's color.

They do look a bit cramped in that crate...but it's for their safety, and really, how many of those crates could one possibly cram into the back seat of their car?? :)

Looks like they all had a wonderful hike, poor Hiker getting her doggles off and getting her dew claw stuck!

    Have a great weekend!

    1. Safety first! They really do have much more room in there than it appears, enough for them to all lay down with space around them.

  7. We love it when we have the trail all to ourselves! Lucky you, having that lovely snow to play in! What happened with Hiker and her Doggles is one reason Wrigs doesn't wear them anymore.
