We've been busy!

As you can imagine, a home with a pack of dogs that include some "specials" is always a bit busy but lately, we've been doing lots of renovations and trying to figure out what has been bothering Callie.

Since I was off for a few days, it was a great opportunity to do some more painting.  Elsie was quite interested but kept her nose out of the paint.

She has settled in very well and is relaxed around the dogs except for the occasional moment when Forest lunges at her.  I think he likes to make her jump because he acts all innocent like he has no idea what is going on!

I didn't want any dogs in the room I was painting so I gave them something different to play with.

Yes, that's a plastic container from coffee.  They had a great time with it, chewing, playing tug and chasing it around the floor.

Callie helped with some repairs to a cabinet.

As usual, there was the supervisory crew.

Safety is always important when doing any type of renovations and here is Azule who knows the importance of safety glasses.

I decided to remove the crate that Callie has had for the past five years, the one that seems to be bothering her lately.  The door has been mangled and barely closes so I removed the crate and put another one in her room. I left this one uncovered, previously, her crate has always been covered on the top, just with an old bed sheet.

Callie was outside while I did this and when she came in, she seemed excited and happily went in and lay down with an antler.

This crate is the same style as the old one, same type of bedding and is in the same location.  She was in and out for a couple of hours while I was in the kitchen cooking and tidying up after dinner.  Callie seems happy and that's all that matters.  We are off to the vet on Wednesday for a check-up, a couple of months earlier than her yearly check, just to be sure there is nothing physically wrong.

It's amazing the distinctions that they can make.

Silas hurt himself somehow running into his crate while we were playing tug. He loved that game--I would send him to his crate and then release him to come out and play again. Now he'll run into his crate happily, UNLESS I have the tug toy.

I'm glad you've found a solution, even if it does look a little crazy to the humans.

    1. Oh, poor Silas. He has a tough time of things, doesn't he?

I'm not sure about the crate and Callie but, hey, it's all good!

    2. You sent me an email? Weird, never got it. Let me check my 500 junk emails :P

    3. Yup, no emails from you and the gang.

  3. That is so odd - but hey - if Callie is happy - that's all that matters! Hope her vet appointment goes well - keep us posted!

Also - you are a GENIUS - I never would have thought about an empty coffee container for entertainment. Thanks for the tip!

    1. Odd and Callie go together!

Since the coffee container is a tough plastic, I thought what the heck! Plastic water bottles are always fun but don't last very long. With a wild and crazy pack (not really) I try and be creative.

    1. I'm not really that ambitious but need to get things done so the house can be listed for sale. I'll be sure and let everyone know how the vet visit goes.

  5. Cat plus open paint tin equals an accident waiting to happen!

Our friend likes those plant pots to chew, too.

Maybe the old crate was haunted and had a resident ghost...just an idea.

    1. No cats were painted or harmed during the latest project! I like your idea of the crate maybe being haunted - maybe you're right. Hmmmm..... : )

People would be surprised at what kind of old trash items can keep dogs occupied! Our two like toilet paper rollers and paper towel rollers (once all the paper has been used, of course).

I am the designated painter around here. I've painted *almost* every room in our house (my parent's bedroom and our upstairs hallway haven't been painted). It's a pain, but I always love the results. Glad you were inspired to paint!

Hoping Callie's vet appointment goes well and that it's just some random weird thing she's going through and not a health issue.

I don't know why Riley likes to hide socks...she likes to hide other things too...she doesn't tear them up, just hides them. If she can't find a good hiding spot, she'll walk around with the sock in her mouth and whine until she finds a suitable place...dork! ;)

    1. We tried the paper towel roll once. Only once. It lasted about 20 seconds and then I was chasing everyone around trying to stop them from eating the mushy cardboard!

I'd like to know what it is about Riley's hiding things and mine with their gathering of footwear. Just one of their little quirks I suppose.

  7. YOu are a very ambicious person. Painting is one of My Vickies least favorite things to do.
So glad the new cage is making Callie happy. Secure, safe light and airy. the perfect combo.

    1. Hi Bert - I'm not really that thrilled with painting either. It's just gotta get done!

  8. Glad to see Callie is feeling more comfortable! Awesome that you figured out it might be her crate that was causing problems!

    1. So far so good with the new crate. After work I could tell Callie had been lounging in it since the bedding was a bit mussed up.

  9. We've been painting a lot around our house too...but I'm always banned from the room (there might have been a paint paw incident that covered multiple rooms)! ;-) Who doesn't love coffee? Apparently pups need a little pick me up too! Hope all is well for Callie's check up!

    1. One time when I painted there was a trail of kitty paw prints across a window sill. Looked cute but not quite the look I was going for!
