Where were you?

I went out of town and left the pack at home. Alone. A friend and some of her family came over to let the dogs out and give them Kongs until my return.

Everything went well, all the dogs behaved, returned to their crates with only a minor bit of confusion and then I returned.  It should have been a happy, we're-so-glad-you're-finally-home greeting.  But it wasn't quite like that. It was more where-the-heck-have-you-been-and-why-do-you-smell-like-that?

Well, I went visiting.  I went to see some people and their rescued animals.

I haven't been around horses before don't know much about them but quickly learned that if you stop petting this one, he'll give a nudge with his nose and almost knock you off your feet! A true gentle giant and it was fun to hang out with him for a bit.

There were also these -

And another dog and a sheep.  (no pictures due to camera issues)

The pack spent a few minutes sniffing and sniffing while giving me accusatory looks.

"Oh but wait" I say.  "I brought you something from the plane ride!"

Pretzels?  A little bag of free pretzels?  You think that is going to make up for leaving us alone and then returning smelling like other dogs and farm animals?!

It's been a couple of days, the clothes have been washed and I think they have forgiven me. I feel a little bad that I tried to bribe them with pretzels, but hey, I think it worked. Either that or they really do love me and am glad I'm back.  I know I love them and am glad to be back with them.

  1. We think they're just happy to have you home....but we think there should be more treats!

We hate it when SHE comes home smelling of other animals!

    1. You three are like the pack - of course there should always be more treats!

  2. Oh your cheating heart. I get such looks from Dexter when I come home smelling of other dogs or critters.

P.S. Dex only gets to lick the leftovers of yogurty goodness too (and believe me, I hear about it).

    1. I really did feel guilty about it and assured them that those critters aren't as wonderful as them!

  3. Oddly, Ray doesn't seem to care so much when I've been around other animals. But I get sure get the sniff-over if I've been out to eat somewhere! Shows you where his priorities are.
Kudos to your friends for taking on the pack!

    1. The report from my friends was funny. Them trying to get Azule into Brook's crate and trying to avoid having blind dogs walk into them!

That is interesting that Ray is more concerned about you having food them being with other animals. Do you often bring him food home? Maybe that is the reason?

  4. Uh oh. You disappeared for a few days and only returned with a bag of pretzels? No no. And smelling like other critters? Not a wise move!

    1. I figured the pretzels would let them know I was thinking about them. I know, I know, not enough!

  5. I'm glad the pack adapted in your absence. You are lucky you have someone who can trust to care for them when you're gone. Sounds like you had fun! I'm certain the dogs are very happy to have you back, and it was probably fun for them to check out all the new smells. :-)

    1. I am extremely fortunate that my friends offered to come by and look after the pack. They've offered to do it again if needed, so I guess it wasn't too bad!

  6. Oh, we get quite a sniffing too when we go away and come back smelling like other dogs/critters. But all is forgiven when the treats come out! Glad the pretzels got you back in their good graces!

    1. Isn't it something how they can make us feel so guilty for going out and doing stuff? Geez. Oh well, I suppose it is in part, due to being a good doggie person.

  8. Howdy Mates, you were left alone and got pretzels when your mum got back???? You lucky ducks, er, dogs. Our mum goes out and we get nothing we tell ya. Nothing! Next time your mum goes out, can you invite us over so we can eat pretzels too??? No worries, and love, Stella and Rory

    1. Shall we get in contact with your Mom and let her know what should be done? Treats need to be dispensed on a regular basis!

  9. Hehe! Sounds like an interesting trip and we think it was worth a try with the pretzels; a guinea pig would forgive you if you brought a food offering. Melon likes the look of that horse!

    1. Melon - the horse is really sweet and mellow. The goat is his best friend, they are always together and share the same stall.

    2. Aww! Inter-species friendships fascinate me.

(Btw, do you know if there is a way to make Blogger notify me of replies to comments I leave on blogs, such as this one? I worry I'll miss them if I forget to check back!)

    3. Uh, umm...ya...I think that if you follow a blog (click on the "join" bar) it gives you the option of receiving e-mails about comments. I think that's what you do. (I'm far from being good a computers!)

    4. Thanks for answering this question, by the way. I tried it; unfortunately the "subscribe by email" (I think that was what you meant!) link only subscribes you to comments on the entire post, not just your own. Which is far too much email spam to sort through if it is a blog with many commenters, and you are only looking out for replies to your own comments.

So we will do our best to keep up with replies by checking back on your posts, but do forgive us if something gets missed. Leaving a comment on our blog will always get our attention, if it comes to it.

    1. Ah...that is so cute. I think the pack was initially excited that I returned and then it quickly became routine again. But that's okay!
