What did you buy us?

The pack is always interested in the results of a shopping trip.  They typically assume that bags containing groceries must be for them.

If they could, I am sure they would ask, "What did you buy for us?"

Unfortunately for the pack, often there is nothing for them.  They seemed to be a bit displeased with the recent shopping trip.

After literally ripping into the empty bag and finding nothing, I got the look. You know the one. The one designed to make you feel guilty and makes them look like they are unloved.

Blind Brook decided to take matters into her own paws and "look" for something good from the grocery shopping.

This is what I saw as I turned around grabbing a couple more items for the fridge.  Seems that she could smell something good in there.

"There must be something in here for us."

Yes, the jar that has captured her attention has a label on it that is "TREATS".  It is some of the beef heart that was dehydrated for them.

Then the decision.  Do I give her and the rest of the pack a treat since she found them and as a result reward that behavior?  Is it really such a big deal to reward that?  I can't see her being able to open the fridge on her own, but...she is smart and those are yummy treats.

But...how could I not give her a treat after she "looked" at them for so long. Practically begging.

Yes, they all got a treat. After all, that's what I dehydrated the heart for.

  1. Brook is a bugger. I can only imagine what 7 dogs giving you "the look" would look like. I can barely withstand "the look" from 2/3 dogs. I would give your pack the whole container of dehydrated beef hearts, but that's because I'm weak :P

You have quite the collection of pickles collecting.

We just got a whole lot of veal and some chicken liver from a friend to dehydrate. We struck a deal; he supplies the meat, I supply the dehydrating.

    1. I'd be concerned with tummy upsets if they had too much! (There are only two jars of pickles there, I use mason jars for other stuff.)

So, do you get to keep some of the dehydrated meat for yourselves?

Aw. Of course! Every time I come in with bags, they assume it is all for them too!

    1. So, your house is like ours, where it is always about the dogs!

  3. SHE would have given us the treats, too. It was very clever of Brook!

    1. I must say, I was impressed at how she found the treats. There was peanut butter close by but she wanted the heart treats.

  4. Yes, I agree! They all deserved their treats after Brook's discovery!

    1. Sometimes I think they all have me wrapped around their paws! But that's okay.

  5. Oh yeah. We know all about "The Look." Of course you gave them all treats. What else could you do?

    1. As long as checking out the fridge doesn't become a habit, we'll be okay!

  6. Oh, hooray! Was hoping the story would end with treats all around! Cute pics!

Rita does the same thing - assumes the grocery bags must have something in there for her!

    1. How could it not be treat time? We must admire the determination as they check the bags every time!

  7. Haha! We do this too! Every time Cocoa responds to the fridge or runs to the 'veggie corner' looking eagerly up at us, we just have to give him something. Especially now that he's 'getting on' and isn't as active, we reward his interest in goings-on.

    1. You have a veggie corner? It must be similar to our treat cupboard. Nothing wrong about treats in moderation!

    2. It's actually the corner of my cage where Mom (not Melon, but her Mom) likes to give me veg. Yup, I live in a cage - I'll post about it sometime!

  8. Sometimes I give them treats just because, because that's what treats are. :-) She'd probably love Nose Work.

    1. I don't think that I treat as often as I could. There. Now the pack will be happy that I admitted it! I think all the blind trio would do well with Nose Work. Hiker won a prize at a dog fair a couple of years ago by sniffing out treats in a kibble puzzle.
