Two dog limit

Where we live, there is a two dog limit.  Yes, we have been over that limit for a few years and until recently, nobody cared.  Our neighbors knew about the dogs and the fosters that came and went.  We had no problems until a few weeks ago when there was a knock on the door.

The person standing there informed me that there had been a complaint regarding the dogs.  Not about them being noisy or not cared for, it was related to the fact that there were more than two.  He went on to say that it didn't matter if they were foster dogs or not.  Two are all that are allowed.  We received a ticket ($180) and were given two weeks to "get rid of them".

Well, as I am sure you can imagine, my heart sank and I was on the verge of tears.  Yes, I know, I know, we were over the limit.  But after this long with no problems, well, I kinda got comfortable.  I am sure that you also know that "getting rid of them" is not an option.  So, into panic relocation mode.

For now, Callie and Breeze are at the house and the others are safely far away, enjoying life on a farm.  We will be together again in about two and a half weeks.  More on that in the next post.

I am trying to hold it together and get through the next couple of weeks until we can all be together again.  I will tell you about our recent advenutures including our big road trip and camping with seven dogs (not as much fun as it sounds!)

I will be getting back to reading your blogs and commenting soon.

  4. Oh no that's rough. I think there's a 3 dog limit in Toronto. I would assume there is no limit where you live. People who complain about things that don't concern them can shove it. I hope you get everything figured out soon and that your family will be reunited again!

  5. We have a 3 dog limit here and after that you can apply for a kennel license. I take it that isn't an option where you are. Very sad news! I can't believe someone would complain about this when obviously your dogs weren't a nuisance. Lame.

Keep us posted and can't wait to hear about the 7-dog camping trip! ;)

  6. Oh dear we feel awful for you but we hope you relocate to somewhere where it does not matter. Good luck and we wish you the best. Glad the dogs are safe elsewhere.

We have a two dog limit also. Is it a HOA? Try to read the rules and see if you can speak at a board meeting. People are so cruel. Sorry to hear that you've grotto deal with it all.

  9. We also have the stupid two dog limit, though it is flaunted when we have a foster dog and it brings us up to three. The local authorities are much more forgiving regarding foster dogs here, though a friend of mine had a foster for over 12 months and she had to go through the process of local council approval for her to have a third dog (consulting neighbours and paying a fee).

The problem we would have is that due to the higher density of the housing around us we would have to consult a lot of neighbours! I think if we ever get that knock at the door I have a couple of options for the third dog if there are no other foster carers available.

Good luck anyway. After just going on a 5hr road trip with 3 dogs I can't imagine how much work it would be with 7!!!

  10. Oh my! How terribly stressful for all of you! I think in our town the maximum number of dogs per residence is three, and anyone who wants to keep more than three dogs must apply for a kennel license (which would likely be denied in a residential area). I know of a number of people who ignore this, but I guess if anyone ever complained it would be enforced. I know you must be counting the days until you can all be together. :-(

  11. Gasp, what the dog?! I'm so sorry to hear that you're having "issues!" We have over the limit of allowed pets too...grr, ruff! I hope that you are all happy and together again, really soon!!

  12. Oh no. There's always somebuddy poking their nose in where it's not wanted. We have paws crossed you'll all be back together real soon. Surely there should be special circumstances for fosters! Take care mates. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory

  13. We're behind and will catch up on your posts, but for now just had to say we're so sorry to hear this. We know you must be devastated to be apart from your pack, and hope it works out soon.

  14. That's awful! If all the dogs are well cared for I don't see the problem with 6 or 7. Glad you have a plan to all get back together soon.:)

  15. Oh how awful! I am glad all of your kids are safe in the meantime. I am sorry that happened to you guys. I hope your relocating process is as easy as it can be. Best of luck to you and your pack!

  16. This is awful! I have three - here you are supposed to have a kennel license for 3+, but I don't. I did have a neighbor call the police when I was fostering a blind red tick coon hound - his bay was incredible, and even though he was not allowed out before 6:30 am (and I tried to keep him quiet until at least 8 am) or after 10:00 pm, they couldn't take it, lol. He found a great permanent home in a neighborhood in VA - the neighbors complain occasionally, but have basically become resigned to him :) Godd luck to you!

  17. I can relate to this and am so sorry that a grouchy neighbor complained just to make trouble for you. Your pack is so happy and well adjusted in your home and now they are somewhere else without you. I know they are very adaptable but it's still upsetting. I'm sorry you all have to go through this and can't wait till you're all together again!

  18. Oh no, this is awful! And shame on whoever called in the complaint! Your dogs are cared for, loved, healthy and happy! I'm so upset for you! :(

  19. I read your other post first and was confused about what was going on. So sorry to hear about the trouble! At least the dogs are in good hands and you will be together again. I cannot believe how heartless people can be reporting you when you have such well behaved and loved dogs:(

  20. I am so sorry that you had to make this very hard decision, but I know that you will do what is best for the pack....always!
Sometimes neighbors can be too busy and do not realize the impact they can have on a happy family. Sending you hugs and good vibes.
I thought you were going to move soon? Is that still happening? Maybe if so, you will be able to get the pack back together then?
Peace, love, barks and treats forever,

  22. Oh my goodness, this is one of the most stressful and awful things I have ever heard. All you do is good, how could they compla about you. I am currently in Canada and away from computers, so I was just shocked to read this right now, and am going to continue on reading all your other posts to see where and how you all are now. My thoughts are with you... And if you want to come to Mexico I have room for you and all your beautiful babies.
