One of our favourite activities is to wander the almost thirty acres of wooded area here on the farm. We also wander the ten acres of fields too. On a recent wander down to and over the creek we continued up the hill into the woods. As I was taking pictures of Bill, Forest and Azule, this is what I saw:
My first thought, along with a second or two of panic was BEAR! After those two seconds of panic, I laughed because there are no bears here on the island, it was only this old girl:
That's Keeper, she had followed us down from the house. She belonged to the elderly couple who I bought the farm from and has lived here her whole life. My wonderful tenants agreed to let her stay and they are taking excellent care of her. Keeper doesn't get around very well sometimes but loves to wander the trail to the creek and gets very excited to join others on a hike. I just need to remember that she is not a bear!
Oh, I would have been nervous, too. Although, not being from bear country, I don't think I would have jumped to quite that conclusion. I'll bet you're the first person in her life to think that poor Keeper is a bear.
ReplyDeleteGlad it wasn't a bear just sweet Keeper. Have a marvellous Monday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
Ha! I saw a bear too!
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful wooded area to be hiking in! Wanna trade? My desert for your woods? ;)
Haha. It really looks like a bear in the first picture! We saw a momma bear and 2 cubs last year, it was exciting but scary. There's a dog in my mom's neighborhood in the mountains that looks just like a coyote and people always freak out even though it's just a sweet old dog like that one:)
ReplyDeleteOh, my gosh - it did look like a bear in that first pic.
ReplyDeleteSo funny cuz when I saw your title... well, I thought maybe this was part of the "poop" blog hop that's going on some of hte blogs today! After all, you know that saying about bears in the woods... :P
We thought it was a bear, too!
ReplyDeleteXXXOOO Daisy, bella & Roxy

I'm not surprised you mistook her for a bear, she looks like one- especially from that angle. Thank God for the good ending though, who know what could have happened if it really had been a bear!

That must have given you a brief adrenalin rush! A few years ago, Wrigs and I walked around a bend on the trail and just ahead of us was a bear munching on some vegetation. Wrigs started to chase it, but luckily he stopped when I called him. Silly guy! The bear dashed off into the brush. :-)

She does look like a bear in that first picture! My heart would have been pounding!
ReplyDeleteShe is beautiful! And quite bear-like :)
ReplyDeleteKeeper does look like a bear! I didn't know there aren't any bears in the east coast. I guess Keeper will just have to do!
ReplyDeleteWow, Keeper sure does look like a bear in that picture! Well, glad Keeper is staying around and enjoying the wildlife and countryside - and looks like you guys are too! Wish I could come - bet there would be lots of yummy things to munch out there!

She does look a lot like a bear! I'm so glad that she can stay in the place that she loves. It looks beautiful there!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful farm, you all must have the nicest walks there. I am glad it was just sweet Keeper and not a bear! I think it is so nice that she likes to go for nice leisurely wanders down along the paths as well.
ReplyDeleteWishing you all a wonderful week :-)
Holy carp! I would have thought it was a bear too. Keeper looks like such a sweetie. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great name! We are adding "Keeper" to our list of awesome names for dogs! :)
