A bear (?) in the woods!

One of our favourite activities is to wander the almost thirty acres of wooded area here on the farm.  We also wander the ten acres of fields too.  On a recent wander down to and over the creek we continued up the hill into the woods.  As I was taking pictures of Bill, Forest and Azule, this is what I saw:

My first thought, along with a second or two of panic was BEAR!  After those two seconds of panic, I laughed because there are no bears here on the island, it was only this old girl:

That's Keeper, she had followed us down from the house.  She belonged to the elderly couple who I bought the farm from and has lived here her whole life.  My wonderful tenants agreed to let her stay and they are taking excellent care of her.  Keeper doesn't get around very well sometimes but loves to wander the trail to the creek and gets very excited to join others on a hike.  I just need to remember that she is not a bear!

Oh, I would have been nervous, too. Although, not being from bear country, I don't think I would have jumped to quite that conclusion. I'll bet you're the first person in her life to think that poor Keeper is a bear.

  4. Haha. It really looks like a bear in the first picture! We saw a momma bear and 2 cubs last year, it was exciting but scary. There's a dog in my mom's neighborhood in the mountains that looks just like a coyote and people always freak out even though it's just a sweet old dog like that one:)

  8. I'm not surprised you mistook her for a bear, she looks like one- especially from that angle. Thank God for the good ending though, who know what could have happened if it really had been a bear!

  9. That must have given you a brief adrenalin rush! A few years ago, Wrigs and I walked around a bend on the trail and just ahead of us was a bear munching on some vegetation. Wrigs started to chase it, but luckily he stopped when I called him. Silly guy! The bear dashed off into the brush. :-)

  15. What a beautiful farm, you all must have the nicest walks there. I am glad it was just sweet Keeper and not a bear! I think it is so nice that she likes to go for nice leisurely wanders down along the paths as well.
Wishing you all a wonderful week :-)
