Puppy invasion has ended.

Our brief but oh so fun puppy invasion has ended.  All three foster puppies have moved on to their regular foster homes. For the few days that they were with us, we had lots of fun!

We were asked if there was any concern about the puppies having worms and the pack being infected.  Yes, actually, the whip worms are highly contagious and the eggs can survive for years in the environment (ie: ground).  Each time the puppies went outside they were very closely watched and their poops picked up immediately and disposed of.  In the house, same thing and then an anti-bacterial wipe was used.  Lots and lots of hand washing too. (I was beginning to feel like I was developing OCD)

The little shepherd-type mix, Keeper, was with us a couple of days longer than the other two.

Keeper

She had the chance to interact more with the pack and show off her true wild and rambunctious personality while running with the big dogs.

Keeper and Forest

Keeper loved having so many playmates and even though she got left behind a few times, she was always ready for a game of chase. It often ended with her being "run over" by another dog and often when she was down, Breeze would rush in for a good sniff.

Another favorite game was tug.  Keeper, being so small, was often dragged around since she wouldn't let go, but she enjoyed it and would happily hang on.

After all that playing, Keeper was a very tired puppy and decided to try out the big dog bed in the kitchen.

I've heard that all three puppies have settled into their foster homes and we are sure that it won't be long before they find their forever homes.

It has been three days since the last puppy left and we are now seeing the previous behaviors from Twiggy again.  Lots of posturing, growling and defensive type actions.  Interesting that having the puppies around settled her so much.

  1. Sounds like you need to take another transport of puppies to help Twiggy....just sayin'.

  2. We hope they find new forever homes soon. Yikes that must have been a lot of poop cleaning and hand washing. Have a marvellous Monday.
    Best wishes Molly

    1. I think that there has been a noticeable drop in sales of paper towels, antibacterial wipes and baking soda!

  3. I don't know how you do it. It must be fun but, really, you deserve a medal.

Glad the pups have moved on for your sake! And we know they will find forever homes soon. Hope Twiggy is doing a bit better do. Why do you think she was settled when they were there I wonder?

    1. It was a bit sad to see the pups go but that is what fostering is all about.

  7. Puppies are so cute but so much work. Probably a little bittersweet to see them go? Especially since Twiggy was more settled with them there. I guess Charles Schultz was right that happiness is a warm puppy.

I'm sure they'll find furever homes fast - they're so cute!

    1. You are so right! Puppies are very cute but I'd take an adolescent or adult. For me, happiness is really any dog.

  8. Aww, goodbye puppy breath, puppy paws, and sharp puppy teeth. We hardly knew yee. Now it's time for Twiggy to find a home! Also, we hope that the stuff going on at home has been ironed out.

    1. One thing I won't miss are those sharp little teeth hanging on my pant legs! Things at home aren't ironed out yet but we've a little bit of progress. Thanks.

  9. You sure did good work there. And thanks for sharing about the precautions you had to take with the rescue puppies there. Melon is thinking of going into rescue/shelter work (not fostering though) and figures there's probably stuff to consider like that, seeing as I am ancient and all and probably wouldn't do too well against anything nasty she brought home.
We too are curious about why puppies might have calmed Twiggy down.

    1. Cocoa, tell Melon to ask your veterinarian about what types of things could be transferred from dogs and cats to you and what type of precautions to take. We all think it would be great for Melon to get involved in rescue/shelter work! That might lead to fostering of small critters someday.

  10. Those puppies sure looked like lots of fun!

So strange about Twiggy - maybe she just doesn't like being the newbie!

    1. The puppies were lots of fun and the house sure seemed empty and quieter once they left. But...part of me was glad to see them go. Sorta. A bit.

  12. Keeper is so darn cute. Glad to hear all the puppies have gone to other foster homes and soon, no doubt, will go to their forever homes. It's a good thing you are nowhere near us, is all I have to say. Have you made any progress in finding a different foster home for Twiggy?
