Busy weekend

The past few days have been a mixture of trying to decide what is going on with Callie, encouraging Elsie the new cat to relax around the dogs and the on-going renovations.

There wasn't much success with figuring Callie out.  Her yearly check-up is to be in April, but we'll schedule a visit before then to have her checked out to eliminate any medical reason for her recent puzzling behavior.

We were out for a walk on Friday afternoon and it was bitterly cold and windy.  The type of cold wind that made it feel like an ice cream headache. Callie of course thought the weather was just fine and wasn't bothered by the wind as it blew across the open fields. She was her usual happy self and played fetch and bounded through the few remaining snow drifts.

Back at home, Elsie the cat is beginning to venture out into the living room when the dogs are calm and relaxed.  This excites the heck out of blind Breeze who constantly nuzzles and sniffs and gently head butts her.  It's interesting to watch Elsie watch Breeze. I think that Elsie has figured out that there is something different with some of the dogs.

Elsie sat on the back of the chair and watched Breeze walk around the chair and stretch up to sniff her. For some reason, Breeze doesn't seem to like getting up on this chair and would only stand with her front feet on the chair and lean forward. Elsie is very calm and sat there and observed Breeze and the others who basically ignored her.  I think that soon she will be a lap cat since she is very affectionate.  I can picture it already - five dogs and two cats on the couch! (only five because Callie will be in her crate beside the couch and Hiker rarely cuddles up on the couch)

Renovations continue with the one bedroom now finished except for an area rug. The final touch ups of paint were done with the supervisory crew ensuring quality work was performed.

Can we come in now?

Typical Bill, sitting with his formerly bad leg sticking out. He still does that with his leg when he's nervous. Moving things around, painting and trying to figure out how to assemble a bed frame, that makes for a nervous boy.

Are you done yet?

In the above photo, that is blind Brook facing the wall. Sometimes the blind girls get confused like that. It's a very small space there at the top of the stairs and she lay with her nose about an inch from the wall.

A bed frame purchased for $20, a cute wall light for $1.25 and a Valentine's Day pillow bought last year for $1.99 the day after the big day.

Looks good and was nap approved.

Forest and Azule

They were a little disappointed when I closed the door and they couldn't get back in.  I'm sure they thought that the bed was just for them.

  1. Busy weekend indeed. I approve of the heart pillow and love how you have a supervising crew.

If only my cat was that patient with the dogs. But then again, she's 16 and cranky as heck, so it'll never happen.

As per emailing, drop me a line here: martini_kisss@hotmail.com (don't judge me; it's an email back from grade 9 and the only one that doesn't have my full name in it these days) and I'll send you some liver this week! :D

    1. A 16 year old cat doesn't have to play nice with a dog! Elsie isn't quite a year old yet so she's still figuring it all out.

  2. You mean the bed wasn't for them???!!!

We don't know much about cats....except we like to bark at them or chase them.

    1. Well, the bed could be for them I suppose...but it's all part of making the house look nice to sell. As for the cats, both of them get chased. I've tried telling Gerrard to be quiet and not making little meowing noises because that's what alerts the blind trio to where he is!

  3. Whoa, that's weird...I only just figured out that I wasn't following you guys! Well, following now! ;-) Awww, that's super sweet about Breeze and Elsie! I bet that it's just overwhelming for poor Elsie...even though I've been raised with cats who are higher up on the food chain than me...I was a bit much for poor Little Bit when she first moved in! Hehehe! Good job on the room renovation! If it's good enough for a nap, then it's perfect!! :-D

    1. Hi - glad you're following! Elsie is really laid back for a young cat that hasn't been around dogs before. I agree with you, once Forest and Azule settled in for a nap, I figured that the bed and the paint job was just about perfect!

  4. Beautiful job on your renovations! The dogs look quite comfy on that bed. It's a good thing Elsie is so calm. My neighbor recently got a new cat, and he has her normally bossy Australian Cattle Dog completely intimidated. He's taken over all the prime real estate in the house (bed, couch, armchairs).

    1. Uh oh, a cat bossing an ACD around?! Oh no!!

Does Wrigs hang out with the ACD? I'm thinking pictures!

    2. It's funny you ask, because I've been thinking about doing a post about Wrigs and his girlfriend Dee Dee (the ACD mix). Look for one in the next few days!

  5. That must be fun to watch the new kitty get used to the dogs. It's so funny how dogs want to check out anything new. My dogs and cat insist on coming to the basement with me any time I do laundry.

    1. With the pack, there is always two or three that have to be right there. Only two dogs got paint on them this time!

  6. Bill is nervous you would not be able to assemble things correctly! :)

Love how they "supervise". Really, what would we do without dogs to make sure we get things right?

    1. Oh come on....Bill knows how handy I am! It's always great to have an audience and supervisors and I'm impressed that they listened very well and didn't come in the room until I told them that they could. Forest still managed to get paint on himself though.

  7. Y'know, I really love the photos with all the dogs swarming around. It just boggles my mind seeing them all at once like that. I can't imagine them all in the kitchen with you cooking dinner. I know that when Ray is in the kitchen with me, most of the time he drives me crazy. He is ALWAYS in the way tripping me up (small kitchen, big blind dog). How does it work out with all your guys? Do they come into the kitchen with you to help you cook?

    1. I'm still chuckling at your comment as I type this! I think that most people wonder the same things that you do once they realize that all the dogs are house dogs and not kept outside. Yes, they often come in the kitchen and see what's going on. The one who gets the most underfoot is also the smallest and that's (blind and partly deaf) Brook. For the most part, they lounge around in the kitchen and are very calm. It's a kitchen and dining area combined so there is a good amount of floor space. Now, when we (eventually!) move, the house has a traditional pantry which is similar to a galley style kitchen, with the sink, fridge and cupboards separate from the main kitchen area. That might be a bit of a hassle since it's a narrow enclosed space but we'll see.

  8. Facing the wall is just as good as facing the camera! Camera shy Braylon would totally agree. :)
