Breeze and Elsie

Breeze continues to be fascinated with our cat Elsie (as she was with the old cat Oscar who passed away a few months ago). Now that Elsie has settled and is used to the pack, she has become a very snuggly lap cat. This works well for blind Breeze because while Elsie is lap sitting, Breeze can wander over and say hello.

found her!

If Elsie isn't on a lap, Breeze will find her, sniff her (especially her belly) and gently head butt her a few times. Sometimes Breeze will follow Elsie and in her attempts to get close, she'll accidentally step on her.  This is often followed by human advice such as, "Don't squash the cat!"

Hiker isn't too interested, she'd rather chase Gerrard.

Breeze uses her feet to hold Elsie in place so she can get a sniff.

"Hold still Elsie, I wanna sniff you!"

Through it all, Elsie is very tolerant and seems to know that Breeze won't hurt her. That other dog Forest, well, he's not as nice, at least in Elsie's opinion.

  1. That is just beautiful. Cats never let us that close.

  2. That is so sweet, I'm really surprised Elsie tolerates Breeze holding her.

    1. Elsie has settled really well and seems to enjoy the attention. The other dude, Gerrard is not impressed. Not at all.

  3. That's pretty darn cute. I love Breeze. Our cat would never let that happen.

    1. Breeze is just so excited whenever she gets close to Elsie. Considering that Elsie was terrified when she arrived, I am surprised how tolerant she is.

  4. That is so funny that Breeze holds Elsie down with her paws and Elsie actually lets her!! It's always so cool when cats and dogs can get along like that - I love it!!

Wow, that's one tolerant cat!! I fear Riley would definitely chase a cat. Plus, I'm allergic to them, so that wouldn't work. Lucky cats!

    1. Well, being allergic is enough reason to not have a cat in the house! Likely Riley would chase, our sighted ones love to chase.

  6. OMG, so cute! They're both so good. :)Breeze's fur looks so shiny! Usually white dogs don't look that shiny, what are you feeding the pack?

    1. Breeze does have a shine to her coat depending on the light. We feed Performatrin Ultra chicken and brown rice from Pet Valu.

  8. Our Jozi is totally in love with our Ragdoll and wants to sniff at her and then she jumps at her and in haste, lands on her sometimes...which doesn't work too well since the Ragdoll is a mere 6 lbs and Jozi is pushing 30 lbs of pure muscle...the other kitty in the house absolutely hates Jozi and snaps and hisses at her...I am beginning to think that the two of them will never be friends...
    Love your blog!

    1. Breeze will sometimes step on the cats but they are learning to watch for her feet which is a good thing since Breeze is around 50 lbs. I am still surprised at how tolerant Elsie is since she had never been around dogs before.

  9. So Cocoa and I have been bad friends and haven't been commenting, even though we've been reading. So we are going to start here. Hope you don't mind the comment-spam!
This is a great post, and I like Breeze's curiosity in the cat as much as I like Elsie's tolerance of her.
