Under the sofa

The pack has chewed down the hooves they got a few weeks ago and as I looked around, I realized that there didn't seem to be many other things for them to chew.  Knowing that they always have a selection (collection?) of chewable things, I decided it was time to grab the yardstick and do a sweep under the sofa.

This is what I found.

Six well-chewed pieces of antler, one natural bone, two little pieces of hoof (now highly prized), a puppy Nylabone and two adult Nylabones.  We haven't seen the puppy Nylabone for a few months. I am certain that it ended up under the sofa by Breeze stuffing it down the back of the seat cushions.

It seems to be lots of fun to put things there and then "dig" them up later.  She will happily wait as I stick my arm down and find whatever she is "digging" up.  Initially I though she might be a bit growly or upset that I was trying to take her things but she seems happy to let me get them for her.

I think that in addition to falling through to the floor, some are probably stuck in the mattress.  Perhaps we should pull out the sofa bed and see what is lurking in there.

There are probably some of you thinking that I am not telling you about everything I found, right?  With a pack of dogs, yes, I found a big dust bunny too.  No, I did not take a picture of it!

  1. Great selection of chews there! It would be a heaven for Dina.

    1. That would be a lot for her! Here, at our house, all those have to be shared with the whole pack.

  2. SHE always thinks SHE's a clean person until a sofa or chair gets pulled out...BOL!

Looks like plenty of chew left in that stuff. It must seem like Christmas.

    1. I know what that is like! I think the dust bunny was bigger than the cat. No, not as much fun to chase and torment.

I can't tell you how big the dust bunnies are when I move the sofa out. I understand and I only have two!

    1. Makes you wonder where they come from, doesn't it?

  4. Every so often one of ours will discover some long missing bone. Then it's a game of keep-away, because EVERYONE wants the newly found treasure!

    1. Oh ya, that happens all the time. Then there are growls and snaps, blind vs deaf vs blind/deaf. Sometimes I wish they wouldn't "find" these things!

  5. Looks like you guys have way more treasure under your couch than ours. I always put Beamer's antlers and chews away after he's done with them so that he doesn't play with them and scratch our hardwood floors (anymore than he already has). Our couches are hiding a ton of balls and even more dust/fur bunnies.

    1. We always have bones, antlers, etc all over the living room floor! Seems there is always a pooch or two chewing and/or playing.

  6. Ha! They had quite the little treasure trove going there! I usually find Thunder Kittys toys under our couch!

    1. The cat toys stay in the room off the living room so that the dogs can't get them and eat them. They've done that before, seems that little catnip mice are quite tasty!

    1. Uh oh...the secret is out! Yes, they are hoarders. No, not really. Hiker is the one who hoards by taking things into her crate.

That sight looks really familiar! I was wondering the other week where all of Riley's toys were...she was just down to a small Nylabone that she was (pathetically) wanting to play fetch with. I asked my dad if he knew where all her toys were. We have reclining sofas, so a lot of the time the toys will get trapped under there when we shut the foot rest.

He said, "Oh, I've been throwing her toys behind the couch after I've played with her, so she'll stop bugging me..." Seriously??? I kindly asked him if he wouldn't mind moving the couch and getting her toys out. He pulled out TWELVE toys! I don't think I even want to know how long he's been doing this "behind the couch" thing...sheesh.

I told him next time, just go put her toys in the laundry room when you're done playing...much easier to get them from there than moving the couch and having big wads of fur all over!!

    1. Behind the couch?! Maybe it's time to get a toy box and then Gramps can put them in there. Poor Riley, wondering why she had no toys. (she probably thought Chloe took them!)

Silas puts thing under the sofa, but then he'll cry and scratch incessantly trying to get them back out when he wants them again. I'm surprised the pack let so much accumulate!

    1. The pack is ever so slightly spoiled and as a result have lots of things to chew!

Like Silas, Breeze will try and get things but before she destroys the couch, I rush in to help.

  11. Melon sometimes calls me a hoarder (not as much as my old brother Choccy) when I grab food and run into a hidey, but come on! How else can I make sure nobody tries to grab me while I'm eating?

    1. You've got a good point there, besides, sometimes its nice to have a meal or snack by yourself. Our blind girl Hiker loves her crate and will take a stuffed Kong in there.

  12. It's good to know there's an emergency stash of chews! I'm afraid to look underneath our sofa. :-D

    1. I honestly try not to think about it. If someone or something came up behind me while I had my hand in the sofa, I know I'd scream like a six year old girl.
