How to chew a hoof

The whole pack got hooves yesterday since the weather was cold and it was hailing.  Also because I am in the midst of a head and chest cold and really don't feel like venturing beyond the couch.

Hiker had an unusual stance.

Foster pup Twiggy just wants to be a part of the pack so she copied Hiker.

And later, Twiggy copied Brook and Azule's extended back leg pose.

Even though Twiggy is really cute, lots of fun to have around and has settled in with the pack very well - she is not staying.  No. She is not. It doesn't matter how many people say, "Aww...come on.  What's one more?"  No.

Twiggy has four good legs, can see and can hear.  She is highly adoptable! We have offered that she stay with us until adopted rather than go to the boarding facility after her spay.  That way, the rescue can use that spot and save another dog.

  1. Ah hooves! My dogs enjoy them but Barbie doesn't really have the jaw power to make any progress on eating them. Will keep em busy for a while though heeh

    1. Some of the pack enjoy them more than others but of course, everyone has to have their own!

    1. You three have really exotic chew things. You'd probably like the hooves although they are a bit smelly. Maybe that makes them yummier though.

Ha ha - Twiggy is not staying! : )

    1. Your Mom is right - they do smell! Apparently taking them outside and leaving them to the elements for a few days makes them taste better too.

Riley had a hoof in her crate the other day--she loved it! It was actually from her birthday in March, but every time I gave it to her to chew on, Chloe would come steal it from her...Riley's a pushover! So I put it on top of our refrigerator and kept forgetting to take it upstairs to our bedroom to shut the door so she could chew on it. I figured crate rest was a perfect time for her to get to enjoy it!

Looks like the pack all enjoyed their chews! When is Twiggy getting spayed? We hope she finds a great home--she'll make a wonderful companion for someone! :)

    1. You gotta do what we do - buy one for everyone! Yes, that means that I buy eight at a time. Let me tell ya, people who don't know give me some odd looks and comments like, "Wow, your dog must really like hooves." "Uh, actually, it's one for each of them." I mumble.

Twiggy should be going for her spay next week I think.

  5. Stumpy is always sticking her bum in the air. It makes it very spankable. I can't resist!

  6. My pack love hooves! But Scarlett, the baby in the family, will go around stealing everyone's hooves. The others will come over to complain to me, and I will find Scarlett on my bed, surrounded by 5 hooves! And she will not let the others, all adults, have them back. She ends up in her crate, with just one hoof, so everyone can enjoy their hooves in peace!

    1. We do the crate thing too since we have the same problem. Not everyone though, just a few of the pack. I found two hooves and a shoe in Hiker's crate yesterday. She was laying on a doggie bed with another hoof at the time.

Aw, hope Twiggy can find a forever home soon! Charley does that lay out with the extended legs and back. It is so strange to see! Have a great day!

    1. It will be a sad day when Twiggy leaves but that is what fostering is about. It's just that she is the first ACD mix we've fostered and well, we got a soft mushy spot for the ACDs.

    1. Dina would love it but be prepared, they do smell a bit. Have you tried antlers? Very very long lasting and they just wear down over time. Expensive but worth the investment.

  9. Sorry you're feeling under the weather! Looks like the pack really enjoyed their hooves.

It's easy for us to say,"What's one more?" We don't have to buy their food, take them to the vet, or orchestrate the logistics of who eats where and all the other activities that become rather complicated when you have a pack vs. just one or two dogs. Twiggy will surely be adopted quickly. She's such a cutie, and would probably make someone a fantastic hiking companion. (Oh course, I always think in those terms since I love to hike.) It's great that she can stay with you until she is adopted!

    1. Thanks, I am starting to feel better, about a week into it now.

Yes, you are correct, there is a lot more to consider then the cute and fun. For instance, I'm already seeing a difference in the amount of puppy kibble we're going through. (it's throwing off the budget a bit!) Twiggy would be fantastic as a hiking companion and/or running partner. I want to take her backpacking!

  10. I'm sad to hear that Twiggy won't be staying, but that just means that a dog in even more need will wiggle itself into your heart and home.

Hope you feel better soon! The 10km run in the cold resulted in a cold on this end too.

    1. Oh yes, no doubt there will be another one at some point!

I'm starting to feel better and hope you are too. This is a lousy time of year for a cold. Although the past few days haven't felt like spring with those cold temps, has it?

  11. She is so cute! I hope she finds a furever home soon.

Those first 2 pics are so funny - I posted a pic of Rita in the same pose with her rawhide the other day. Funny!

    1. What's that all about?! Is it a way to get a better grip on it or something? We'll never understand the minds of dogs.
